[Biden Victory] Republican Leadership Silent on Biden's Win
Mixed Reactions Within the Republican Party: Senator Romney and Maryland Governor Hogan Concede
Senator Holley, Representative Gates, and Representative Gosa Indicate Refusal to Concede
[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] Reactions within the ruling Republican Party are divided over Democratic candidate Joe Biden's victory in the U.S. presidential election.
While some voices acknowledge Biden's win, others insist on continuing the fight until the end.
AP News reported on the 7th (local time) that despite Biden's victory, the Republican leadership remains silent.
Senator Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential candidate and longtime rival of President Donald Trump, immediately posted on Twitter upon hearing the news of Biden's victory, saying, "Anne and I congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris."
Romney said, "We know that the two possess goodwill and respectable character," and added, "We pray that God blesses them moving forward."
Jeb Bush, former Florida governor and brother of former President George W. Bush, also acknowledged Biden's victory by tweeting, "Congratulations to President-elect Biden."
Larry Hogan, Maryland governor known as the 'Korean son-in-law,' tweeted, "Because our country must succeed, everyone should want our president to succeed," adding, "We face great challenges ahead. Now more than ever, we must unite as Americans."
Contrary to this atmosphere, some Republican lawmakers are still resisting, claiming the election is not over.
Senator Josh Hawley tweeted, "The media does not decide the president. The people decide," and according to AP News, he wrote, "Once all legal votes are counted, recounts are completed, and fraud allegations are addressed, we will know who the winner is."
Matt Gaetz, a staunch pro-Trump House member, criticized on Twitter, "Some Republicans are surrendering and preparing to fight in the next election," and argued, "If we do not stand up and fight for Trump at this critical moment, the Republican Party has no future."
Representative Jody Hice said, "The mainstream media is trying to convince the American people on behalf of their Democratic friends that it is already over."
Paul Gosar, who participated in protests in front of a Maricopa County polling station in Arizona, sarcastically tweeted, "It’s not over until every vote is counted."
