[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] German Chancellor Angela Merkel sent congratulations on the 7th (local time) upon hearing the news that Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential candidate, won the US presidential election, stating, "I look forward to cooperating with President Biden in the future."
According to foreign media including dpa news agency, Chancellor Merkel stated in a statement posted on Twitter that day, "I wish him luck and success," and emphasized, "If we want to overcome the great challenges of this era, the friendship on both sides of the Atlantic cannot be replaced by anything."
Chancellor Merkel also sent congratulations to Kamala Harris, who became the first female and Black vice president in US history, referring to her as the first female vice president of the United States.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas also said, "We look forward to working with the next US administration," adding, "We want to invest in our cooperation for a new start and a new deal on both sides of the Atlantic."
