8 Years of Shoulder Pain... Finally Decided on Surgery
BigHit "Decision Made After Consideration for Military Service and Singing Activities"
Suga "Please Wait Even If I Am Away for a While"
Fans "Worried. Hope for a Healthy Recovery" Concerns
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Suga (real name Min Yoon-gi) of the group BTS, who is preparing to release a new album, will be absent from most official activities for the time being due to a shoulder injury.
BTS's agency Big Hit Entertainment announced on the 6th through the fan community Weverse that "Suga underwent surgery on the 3rd to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder."
Big Hit stated, "Suga himself judged that it was important to be in a healthy condition both to fulfill his military service obligations and for his singing activities after military service," adding, "After much consideration with our company, he decided to undergo surgery."
They added, "Once the surgical site on Suga's shoulder is confirmed by doctors to have healed stably, he will undergo rehabilitation treatment and return to the stage in good health." For the time being, Suga is expected to focus on recovery.
They continued, "It may be difficult to meet fans during the promotion period of the new album 'BE' as well," and expressed their apologies for causing disappointment and concern.
According to Big Hit, Suga experienced an accident in 2012 and was diagnosed with a dislocation of the humerus in his shoulder the following year. Since then, he has struggled with shoulder injuries for the past eight years. In particular, he has experienced various symptoms such as being unable to raise his arm high or sudden pain.
Last year, he was diagnosed with a "left posterior labral tear," which means a tear in the cartilage around the left shoulder joint.
Throughout his activities, he has undergone various rehabilitation training and treatments, but since there was no significant improvement, he decided to have surgery.
It has been reported that Suga was recently hospitalized at a hospital in Seoul, underwent shoulder surgery, and has now entered the final stages of preparing the new album without overexerting himself.
Big Hit said, "Recently, the intervals between symptom occurrences have become shorter, causing discomfort not only on stage but also in daily life."
Through Big Hit, Suga said, "I am well aware of all the worries, concerns, and feelings of disappointment and sadness from the fans," and added, "Please think of this as a time for me to prepare to meet you in a healthier state, and even if I am absent for a while, please wait for me."
Upon hearing the news, fans responded with comments such as "Suga oppa, don't be sick," "I'm more hurt," and "I hope you don't get hurt. I'm worried."
Meanwhile, BTS will release their new album 'BE (Deluxe Edition)' on the 20th. The announcement of BTS's new album has attracted the attention of fans worldwide.
Additionally, on the 22nd (local time), BTS will perform the title track "Life Goes On" from the new album for the first time at the major U.S. music awards show, the 2020 American Music Awards.
