People Power Party Demands Reinvestigation of Choo's Son's Leave Allegations... Files Appeal
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The People Power Party has submitted an appeal to the prosecution requesting a reinvestigation into the preferential leave allegations involving Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae's son, Mr. Seo.
On the 6th, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had received the appeal regarding the investigation into Mr. Seo's military service, submitted by the People Power Party on the 27th of last month.
The Eastern District Prosecutors' Office will forward the investigation records to the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, which will decide within 20 days from the receipt of the appeal on the 27th of last month whether to conduct a reinvestigation.
Previously, on September 28, the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Deok-gon) decided not to indict Minister Choo, Mr. Seo, former aide Mr. A, and unit regional commander Mr. B regarding the preferential leave allegations against Mr. Seo.
The prosecution stated regarding Mr. Seo's military absence charges, "The initial sick leave, extended sick leave, and regular leave were all conducted with the approval of the regional commander," adding, "It is difficult to see that Mr. Seo, who was verbally notified of this, had the intent to evade military duties." Since the charges against Mr. Seo were not established, the prosecution also judged that Minister Choo, the aide, and military personnel had no charges.
