The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 6th that they are investigating the online leak of information about a family in Changwon who tested positive for COVID-19.
The police identified that the public document, created by Gyeongnam Province in the form of a Hangul file, was captured as a photo and distributed through a KakaoTalk group chat.
The leaked document contained detailed information about the confirmed patient's family, including their surname, workplace, and gender, which Gyeongnam Province had not disclosed externally, the police confirmed.
The police stated, "Since the investigation is in its early stages, secondary distribution has not been confirmed at this time," and added, "In cases of public document leaks, charges under the Personal Information Protection Act may apply."
