Opening Ceremony of ‘Jayang Cultural and Sports Center’ Held on the 4th... ‘Jayang Hangang Library’ and ‘Jayang Gymnasium’ Established to Support Residents' Cultural and Sports Activities
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) held an opening ceremony for the ‘Jayang Culture and Sports Center’ on the 4th.
The ‘Jayang Culture and Sports Center’ was completed on October 14 last year, and after facility maintenance and a pilot operation period, the opening ceremony was originally scheduled for February 4 but was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19, and was held on the 4th.
The ‘Jayang Culture and Sports Center’ was established by utilizing the idle space of Jayang Yusuji to support residents’ leisure, culture, and sports activities, and houses the Jayang Hangang Library and Jayang Gymnasium.
The opening ceremony on this day began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by the screening of a promotional video for the Jayang Culture and Sports Center, presentation of appreciation plaques, and a facility tour. The ceremony was also broadcast live on the official Gwangjin-gu Office YouTube channel so that residents could enjoy it together.
The Jayang Hangang Library is a three-story building with an area of 1,650㎡, making it the third largest district-run library in the area after Gwangjin Information Library and Junggok Culture and Sports Center Library.
The library includes a book caf?, a children’s reading room, and a general reading room.
Additionally, there is a rooftop garden facing the Han River, providing a comfortable resting place for residents.
The Jayang Hangang Library houses 30,000 books and 370 seats, and offers customized reading experiences through separate reading rooms for children and adults.
Various educational and cultural programs such as Book Start, reading classes, and reading clubs are also planned. Those who hold membership cards from existing district libraries can use the Jayang Hangang Library without additional registration.
Currently, the library is partially operating to prevent the spread of COVID-19, allowing only book lending and return services, and less than 50% seating capacity in open rooms and reading rooms.
Operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. The library is closed on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month and on legal holidays (excluding Sundays).
The Jayang Gymnasium had been temporarily closed due to COVID-19 but resumed operations on November 2 following the easing of social distancing measures. Currently, considering the COVID-19 situation, only five sports?badminton, yoga, table tennis, basketball, and futsal?are being operated first. Participation applications can be made through the Gwangjin-gu Sports Club website.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Jayang Yusuji was only used as a rainwater pumping station and public parking lot, so its utilization was low.
