Nowon-gu Mobile App WalkOn New Registration Event Until the 20th... First 1,000 Participants Receive Convenience Store Gifticons... Incentives for Monthly Average Step Improvers and Top Cumulative Steppers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate a WalkOn new membership event and challenge to promote walking culture in daily life and provide incentives.
With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, outdoor activities and physical activities have decreased, threatening health physically with obesity and mentally with COVID depression.
Walking helps prevent obesity and reduces the risk of diseases such as heart disease and stroke.
It also contributes to mental health by preventing depression and improving sleep quality.
The district is conducting various programs to promote walking, the best exercise in daily life, while maintaining social distancing and complying with quarantine rules.
First, there is a WalkOn new membership event running until the 20th. The first 1,000 people who join Nowon-gu’s official WalkOn community, “Walking City Nowon,” for the first time will receive a convenience store mobile gifticon worth 5,000 KRW.
Residents who wish to participate can install “WalkOn” from Google Play or the App Store → sign up → join Nowon-gu’s official community “Walking City Nowon” → tap the trophy-shaped challenge tab at the bottom → participate in the event “Welcome! Is this your first time in Walking City Nowon?” → receive → fill out the application form (name, phone number, address).
Winners will be selected based on the order of application among new members after verifying previous membership history.
The winners will be announced on the 25th, and the event may end early once the first 1,000 participants are reached.
To increase the rate of walking practice in daily life, the district conducts monthly challenges with various courses and methods through the mobile app “WalkOn.” Achievers who complete the missions will be entered into a draw to receive various prizes.
To participate in the challenges, select the Nowon-gu challenge in the challenge tab (trophy icon) at the bottom, then carry your smartphone and walk.
In October, the “Separately, yet together walking along Danghyeoncheon” challenge was held in two phases.
Besides challenges, the district plans to promote walking as a lifestyle habit by providing various incentives such as convenience store gifticons to WalkOn members who improve their average monthly steps or rank high in cumulative steps.
The district has been conducting various events to build a walking-friendly environment and spread walking culture. As a result, the walking practice rate, which was ranked 25th among Seoul’s autonomous districts in 2017, greatly improved to 7th place in 2019.
Also, in May, Nowon-gu became the first local government nationwide to enact an ordinance and enforcement rules to promote physical activity for the health improvement of Nowon residents, establishing a systematic system for providing incentives to physical activity participants.
