Jeonnam Province Holds 'Blue Tour Vision Forum'... Discussing the Future of Tourism
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 4th that it held the ‘Blue Tour Vision Forum’ to spread the vision of the second project of ‘Clean Jeonnam Blue Economy’ and to build consensus among residents.
The event was organized to secure momentum for establishing the ‘Global Tourism Jeonnam Era’ and to explore measures to respond to the post-COVID-19 era in Jeonnam tourism.
Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok, National Assembly members Joo Cheol-hyun and Kim Hoe-jae, Jeonnam Provincial Council Vice Chairman Kim Sung-il, Yeosu Mayor Kwon Oh-bong, and others attended, and the event was broadcast live in real time through Jeonnam Province’s YouTube channel ‘Euddeum Jeonnam Tube.’
The forum, under the vision of ‘The Miracle of the South Coast, New Growth Tourism Belt,’ featured diagnoses of marine tourism utilizing Jeonnam’s blue resources along with presentations by experts.
Before the forum began, National Assembly members Joo Cheol-hyun and Kim Hoe-jae said, “We will cooperate so that Jeonnam can establish itself as a global hub for marine leisure tourism beyond Korea,” and “We will devote all our efforts to building Jeonnam as a core axis of new growth in the South Coast region and as Korea’s economic blue chip.”
Lee Jung-chul, President of the Korean Marine Tourism Association, delivered the keynote speech titled ‘Korea’s Blue Tourism, South Coast Tourism,’ suggesting sustainable Jeonnam-style blue tourism linked with small-scale coastal cruises, marinas, and fishing village experience programs.
In the following presentations, Chae Dong-ryeol, Research Fellow at the Gyeongnam Research Institute, spoke on ‘Measures to Revitalize Island Tourism,’ and Hwang Jin-hoe, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Maritime Institute, presented on ‘Post-COVID-19 Era, Development Directions and Tasks for Jeonnam’s Cruise Industry,’ discussing ways to revitalize South Coast tourism including island tourism projects and coastal cruise businesses.
The panel discussion, chaired by Professor Kim Jong-nam of Daekyeung University, featured a heated debate on ‘The Way Forward for Jeonnam Tourism in the Post-COVID-19 Era.’
Governor Kim said, “In the post-COVID-19 era, Jeonnam, a treasure trove of clean and healing resources, will lead the reconstruction of the tourism industry by developing the most Jeonnam-like tourism industry model in the new normal and new world order,” adding, “I hope today’s forum will be the key to opening the ‘Global Tourism, Jeonnam Era.’”
