"Entrance Fee Provided for Local High School Graduates Entering Local Universities" ··· First Project of Gimhae City Future Talent Scholarship Foundation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 5th that starting next year, all students who graduate from high school within the region and enter a university within the region will receive a university entrance scholarship.
The city decided to promote the university entrance scholarship project as the first core project of the Future Talent Scholarship Foundation, which will be launched early next year. This initiative was prepared to prevent the outflow of local talent, strengthen the competitiveness of local universities, and reduce the burden on parents.
As the school-age population gradually decreases, local outstanding talents are moving to universities in neighboring cities, causing a shortage of freshmen at local universities and further weakening university competitiveness.
Additionally, parents face increased financial burdens due to study-abroad costs associated with attending universities in other cities, and students suffer from the double hardship of long commuting times.

Meanwhile, this year, about 5,800 students graduated from high schools in Gimhae, of whom approximately 590, about 10%, enrolled in four local universities. With the school-age population declining every year, there are concerns about a further decrease in university entrants next year.
