The appointed sign language interpreters are three individuals affiliated with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Sign Language Interpretation Center: Bae Uri (38, female), Lee Seonhee (27, female), and Won Jonghwa (44, male).
People with speech and hearing disabilities have had difficulties accessing information about socially significant incidents and accidents occurring at sea. Additionally, they faced challenges in accurately understanding details during investigations of such incidents and accidents. Therefore, the interpreters were appointed to prevent and protect against human rights violations through sign language interpretation.
They will engage in activities for the next three years to provide information about Coast Guard duties and to promote human rights protection.
