Sejong-si Provides Free Appointment of Court-Appointed Attorneys for Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City is launching a free support program for the appointment fees of court-appointed representatives for vulnerable groups in the region.
The city announced on the 25th that starting next month, it will provide free support for the appointment of court-appointed representatives in administrative trials for socially and economically vulnerable groups filing administrative trials against affiliated institutions such as eup, myeon, and dong.
The support targets include basic livelihood security recipients, single-parent families, basic pension recipients, disability pension recipients, and protected persons under the Act on the Protection and Settlement Support of Residents Escaping from North Korea, who have difficulty appointing legal representatives due to economic reasons.
The court-appointed representatives will provide legal consultations to these individuals, prepare petitions, supplementary briefs, evidence documents, and appear before the Administrative Trial Commission to make statements, performing all necessary tasks related to the administrative trial process.
The administrative trial court-appointed representative system is a program that supports the costs of appointing court-appointed representatives for marginalized groups who face difficulties in administrative trial procedures due to lack of legal knowledge. Legal grounds were established through the amendment of the Administrative Trial Act in October 2017.
In this regard, the city revised the Administrative Trial Commission operation regulations last August and appointed two court-appointed representatives with lawyer qualifications, preparing to implement the administrative trial court-appointed representative appointment system.
Those wishing to appoint a court-appointed representative must submit an application to the city Administrative Trial Commission with supporting documents for qualification verification.
