Recommendation of Nominee Books for '2021 Bucheon's Book'... 3 Titles Selected in General, Children, and Comics Categories
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province is accepting citizen recommendations until the 11th of next month for the selection of the '2021 Bucheon Book.'
Book recommendations are divided into general, children’s, and comics categories and are being conducted simultaneously online and offline at 34 local libraries and the library website (www.bcl.go.kr).
The submitted books will first be shortlisted to five titles per category by the Bucheon Book Selection Committee, composed of writers, comics experts, librarians, and reading-related professionals.
Then, through a citizen preference survey and online voting, the list will be narrowed down to three titles per category, followed by discussions between the citizen selection group and the book selection committee. Through this process, a total of three books (one each in general, children’s, and comics categories) will be finally selected as the '2021 Bucheon Book.'
To encourage wide citizen participation, the city has installed bulletin boards and submission boxes for book recommendations at libraries and operates category-specific citizen selection groups to allow direct citizen involvement in the Bucheon Book selection process.
Additionally, citizens who recommend books for the Bucheon Book will receive various benefits through a lottery, such as extended library loan limits and priority participation in Bucheon Book projects.
Lee Jaehee, director of Sangdong Library in Bucheon, stated, "I hope many citizens participate in the 'One City One Book' project, from recommending and selecting books to reading relays and discussions, making it a good opportunity to grow together through books."
