Chonnam National University to Host International Symposium Highlighting the Correlation Between COVID-19 and the Elderly
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University is holding an international symposium to prepare for an aging society and explore healthy and happy elderly life.
The Center for Geriatrics at Chonnam National University (Director Professor Yoon Kyungchul, Department of Ophthalmology) announced on the 21st that it will hold the 14th International Aging Symposium on the 24th at Deokjae Hall, Medical School, Hakdong, Gwangju Metropolitan City, with participation from universities, hospitals, academic societies, and organizations related to aging.
Sponsored by the Institute for Biomedical Research at Chonnam National University Hospital and others, this event will be chaired by Park Sangcheol, Chonnam National University Distinguished Professor, with Director Yoon Kyungchul serving as the organizing committee chair and Professor Han Jaeyoung (Department of Rehabilitation Medicine) as the secretary general, proceeding in accordance with quarantine guidelines.
The symposium will discuss medical approaches as well as nutritional, nursing, and social approaches to enhance immunity in old age under the theme of "Immunity and Aging."
Dr. Luigi Peruchi from the U.S. NIH and Professor Yasuyuki Kondo from Osaka University, Japan, will deliver remote lectures on immunity in old age and successful aging.
Additionally, domestic experts will present methods to efficiently improve immune function and prevent aging through nutrition and physical activity.
In particular, the symposium will also cover topics of high social interest such as the aging society after the COVID-19 pandemic, nutrition and aging, as well as guidelines for elderly COVID-19 response and vaccines.
