The Industry with the Largest Increase in Payment Amounts up to Q3 This Year is 'Baedal'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Compared to last year, the industry with the largest increase in payment amounts up to the third quarter of this year was found to be 'delivery.' Application analysis service WiseApp announced on the 20th the rise and fall of consumer payment amounts by retail industry from January to September this year.
WiseApp conducted a sample survey of amounts paid by Korean individuals aged 20 and over at representative retail brands by industry from January to September, comparing them to the same period last year. The top brands in the delivery sector, Baedal Minjok and Yogiyo, showed a 74% increase. The industry with the second highest payment amount growth rate was 'internet services.' Leading brands in internet services such as Google, Netflix, Nexon, and Oneul-ui Jip (Today's House) saw a total payment amount increase of 25% compared to the same period last year. 'Internet shopping,' represented by Coupang, eBay Korea, Naver, and 11st, recorded a 22% increase in total payment amounts compared to the same period last year.
'Bakery/Pastry,' represented by Paris Baguette, Tous Les Jours, BR Korea, and SPC Samlip, saw a 7% increase in total payment amounts compared to the same period last year. The 'home shopping' sector, including GS Home Shopping, Lotte Home Shopping, Home&Shopping, and NS Home Shopping, increased by 4% this year.

The industries with significant declines were travel (-62%), airlines (-70%), theaters (-73%), and duty-free shops (-75%). WiseApp estimated these amounts based on payments made by Korean individuals aged 20 and over using credit cards, debit cards, account transfers, and small mobile payments at the respective retail sectors. Payments made via corporate cards, corporate account transfers, inter-company transactions, cash transactions, and gift certificates are not included.
