Yeosu City Wins Korea SNS Awards 'Grand Prize' This Year... 5 Consecutive Years of Winning
Recognition of Communication Achievements of Yeosu City Official SNS 'Healing Yeosuya' and 'Yeosu Iyagi'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) has been honored with the grand prize in the Basic Local Government category at this year’s ‘10th Korea SNS Awards,’ marking its fifth consecutive year of winning.
The Korea SNS Awards, hosted and organized by the Korea Social Content Promotion Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, is the most prestigious award in the country that evaluates and recognizes the use of SNS by public institutions and companies.
In evaluations consisting of SNS utilization index, industry-academia-research expert assessments, user voting, and expert judging, Yeosu City received high scores across all areas, acknowledging its achievements in communication through SNS.
Since 2014, the city has operated eight social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and blogs, communicating with 220,000 followers through ‘Yeosu Story’ and ‘Healing Yeosu-ya.’
In particular, the Yeosu tourism SNS ‘Healing Yeosu-ya,’ which interacts with 120,000 followers and has been visited by over 30 million people, introduced contactless travel destinations gaining attention during the COVID-19 era and worked to guide safe travel in Yeosu by providing information on quarantine rules to be observed during visits.
Amid cancellations of festivals and various events, the city also focused on online promotion allowing virtual travel to Yeosu’s beautiful destinations, offering comfort and healing time to citizens exhausted by COVID-19.
Unlike other local governments, ‘Yeosu Story’ has moved away from one-way communication that simply posts administrative information, establishing a two-way communication environment by operating a KakaoTalk channel consultation chat to listen to citizens’ voices, receiving positive responses.
A city official stated, “As non-face-to-face interactions have become a social trend due to COVID-19, the importance of non-face-to-face marketing in administrative promotion is also emphasized. We will continue to actively utilize SNS communication channels to provide information tailored to the perspectives of citizens and tourists and engage in sincere communication.”
