Employees who won the Grand Prize at Samsung SDI's non-face-to-face writing contest are showing their works.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung SDI recently held a non-face-to-face employee writing contest themed on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), drawing attention.
According to Samsung SDI on the 18th, the company held the contest under the catchphrase "Hope is within us" through the in-house communication channel "SDI Talk," featuring categories for original poems and acrostic poems on "Corona." About 200 employees submitted their works.
The contest entries included works containing messages of hope to overcome the COVID-19 situation together, encouraging and supporting each other.
The judging was conducted by poets Na Taeju and Ko Doohyun. In their evaluation, the two poets said, "While linguistic expression is important in poetry, sincerity is even more crucial, and that sincerity is very well guaranteed here. Emotions such as longing and yearning were deeply permeated. Expressing heartfelt feelings on a single theme through poetry is a very beautiful and precious opportunity. If new creativity and imagination bloom from the soft roots of emotion, our daily lives and future will become even richer."
The work selected as the best original poem by the two poets was "A Letter to My Son" by Jang Kyungho, a professional from the Small Battery Business Division. This award-winning piece was praised for sincerely expressing the painful feelings toward children who cannot play freely due to COVID-19.
In the acrostic poem category on "Corona," the best work was selected as the piece by Kim Hyunsun, a professional from the Small Battery Business Division. It was evaluated as cleverly conveying a message hoping for the swift end of the COVID-19 situation.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Samsung SDI has formed a response task force (TF) and carried out various activities. They installed thermal cameras at all workplace entrances to continuously monitor employees' health, distributed masks to domestic and overseas employees, and conducted regular building disinfection as part of physical quarantine measures.
Additionally, to help employees protect themselves from COVID blues (depression), they have been conducting online counseling and non-face-to-face organizational culture activities such as radio broadcasts and book talk campaigns. They also introduce various content like safe travel methods during the COVID-19 era and COVID-19 Q&A, paying attention to the mental quarantine of employees.
Jeon Younghyun, President of Samsung SDI, said, "I could read the wishes of employees encouraging each other with hope to overcome COVID-19," adding, "We will spare no support to help everyone overcome COVID-19 together."
Best Original Poem: "A Letter to My Son"
Your lively figure running around
is vivid in my eyes as if it were just yesterday,
but now, unable to even breathe fresh air freely,
your current state pains me.
When the sun rises, I will be your mask to go outside.
When the wind blows, I will be your windbreaker so you won’t be cold.
On rainy days, I will be your raincoat so you can play.
It must be hard not to play freely, but I will be there for you.
Because I am your father. -Jang Kyungho-
