Start of Subcommittee Meetings for Launching Seoul City Policy Diagnosis TF Team... Jeong Ji-gwon, Chairman of the Policy Committee, Shares Operational Directions and Roadmap
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The 17th Policy Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim In-ho), led by Policy Committee Chairman Jung Ji-kwon (Seongdong 2, Democratic Party), which aims to steer the Seoul Metropolitan Council as a policy-driven assembly and to diagnose, verify, and propose major policies of Seoul, has begun full-scale operations with small-scale face-to-face meetings following the downgrade of the COVID-19 alert level to Level 1.
In particular, the 17th Policy Committee plans to form and operate the "Seoul Policy Diagnosis TF" to propose projects that Seoul citizens can directly feel through diagnosis and verification of major projects currently being promoted by Seoul, in addition to the achievements of previous policy committees.
At the first face-to-face meeting of the seven-member chairmanship held on August 28, coinciding with the launch of the 17th Policy Committee, Policy Committee Chairman Jung Ji-kwon expressed his aspirations for the direction of the committee’s operations. After the Chuseok holiday, the committee has been actively promoting and conducting four subcommittee meetings.
The subcommittee meetings of the Policy Committee are scheduled to begin with the Urban Infrastructure Improvement Subcommittee on October 14, followed by the Education, Health and Welfare Subcommittee and the Administrative Autonomy and Innovation Subcommittee on the morning and afternoon of October 15, respectively, and finally the Culture, Environment and Transportation Subcommittee on October 23.

At the first subcommittee meetings, the roadmap for the 17th Policy Committee was shared to promote the committee more substantively, and each subcommittee presented policies and issues closely related to Seoul citizens, taking the first step toward verification.
In the Urban Infrastructure Improvement Subcommittee, in relation to the fire at the Cheongnyangni Fruit and Vegetable Market last month, the need to improve fire safety facilities in traditional markets was raised, along with in-depth discussions on citizen-centered policies such as public rental housing supply related to real estate, residential area regeneration projects, and the recovery of excess profits and development gains related to redevelopment and reconstruction.
The Education, Health and Welfare Subcommittee discussed suspended projects during the absence of the Seoul Mayor, future education after COVID-19, and the development of quality improvement programs for social service centers.
The Administrative Autonomy and Innovation Subcommittee expressed interest in the balanced development of Seoul to ensure prosperity for all and opinions on fostering Seoul-style new growth enterprises.
The Culture, Environment and Transportation Subcommittee, scheduled for next week, will also begin listing and thoroughly inspecting notable current policies of Seoul.
