[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) will provide emergency living expenses of up to 1 million KRW to low-income households facing financial difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The support targets low-income households with a household income below 75% of the median income and assets under 600 million KRW, whose income has decreased by 25% or more due to COVID-19-related unemployment, business suspension, or closure. However, households that have already received other COVID-19 relief supports such as basic living benefits, emergency living benefits, emergency employment stabilization funds, Small Business New Hope Funds, or unemployment benefits are excluded.
Applications can be made both online and offline. Online applications using the internet or mobile devices can be submitted by the head of the household on the 'Bokjiro' website until the 30th of this month.
On-site applications can be made at the local community service centers in the applicant’s residential area from the 19th to the 30th, and applications by household members or representatives are also accepted.
To ensure smooth and prompt application processing, both online and offline applications will be operated on a day-of-the-week basis.
Applicants can apply according to the last digit of their birth year: Monday (1,6), Tuesday (2,7), Wednesday (3,8), Thursday (4,9), Friday (5,0), Saturday (odd numbers), and Sunday (even numbers). On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, only online applications are accepted.
Applicants must submit relevant documents proving the household income reduction according to their income type. The required documents by type can be checked on the Bokjiro website.
The support amount is based on the number of household members registered as of September 9 this year: 400,000 KRW for a single-person household, 600,000 KRW for two-person households, 800,000 KRW for three-person households, and 1 million KRW for households of four or more. The support funds will be paid between November and December after verification of income and assets.
The district office has formed an emergency living support T/F team led by the deputy mayor to ensure the smooth implementation of the emergency living support project for vulnerable households.
Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “I hope this emergency living support will provide some help to low-income families struggling due to COVID-19. We will do our best to ensure that the emergency living expenses are paid quickly and accurately.”
