Busan City Hall Public Officials Labor Union Returns Support Budget to Overcome COVID-19
Commemorative Event and Industrial Inspection Fully Canceled... Agrees to Share Welfare Budget Burden
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A total of 917 public officials belonging to the Busan City Hall Public Service Workers' Union returned the welfare budget allocated to them.
The budget for events such as sports competitions and field trips will be used to support efforts to overcome COVID-19.
The Busan City Hall Public Service Workers' Union completely canceled the annual 'Union Commemorative Event' and 'Model Union Member Industrial Inspection' this year. The related budget amounts to about 40 million KRW.
The union stated on the 13th that the decision to return the budget was made as part of sharing the pain caused by COVID-19 and was decided through an agreement between Busan City and labor-management.
Busan City plans to process the return of the related budget during the 4th supplementary budget compilation of 2020, following the wishes of the Busan City Hall Public Service Workers' Union.
Song Seong-hoon, the union chairman, said, "With the spread of COVID-19 and disasters such as typhoons increasing the financial burden on Busan City, we could not just stand by," adding, "We hope the funds will be promptly used for disaster response."
Byun Sung-wan, Acting Mayor of Busan, said, "I am grateful to the public service workers who take the lead on the front lines whenever disasters such as COVID-19 and typhoons strike Busan City," and added, "The world will remember the beautiful image of public service workers leading the way during these economically difficult times in all fields."
