[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] A Korean man in his 30s detained in a Philippine police station jail escaped after seizing a firearm.
According to the Korean Embassy in the Philippines on the 12th, Korean national Im Mo (36) took a firearm and fled from the detention center of the Southern Police District in Taguig City, southern Metro Manila, at around 11:30 PM on the 10th.
Im reportedly asked to use the restroom, which led to the jail door being opened. He then attacked a police officer and seized the firearm. He is said to have escaped outside the police station building.
The exact type of firearm he seized has not yet been confirmed.
Im was previously accused of detaining Korean nationals in the Philippines and was arrested by local police in June for investigation.
The Korean Embassy urged the Philippine police to swiftly apprehend Im and advised the Korean community and nationals in the Philippines to remain vigilant about their personal safety.
