Ban Ki-moon Thanks Nobel Peace Prize WFP for Efforts to Help the Hungry
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Ban Ki-moon, former UN Secretary-General and Chairman of the Board of the Global Green Growth Institute, sent a congratulatory letter to the World Food Programme (WFP), which won this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
According to the WFP Korea Office on the 12th, Chairman Ban expressed "sincere congratulations" in a letter sent to David Beasley, Executive Director of the WFP, on the same day.
He stated, "In a situation where the climate, public health, and economic adverse effects caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have led vulnerable populations worldwide to suffer from more severe poverty and food shortages, I believe the members and activities of the WFP deserve all recognition."
He added, "Once again, I congratulate the WFP on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and thank the WFP for its efforts and support for the hungry."
