Gwangju City to Conduct 2020 Population and Housing Census Starting from the 15th
On-site Survey of 120,000 Domestic and Foreign Households... 45 Items Evaluated
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 12th that it will conduct the "2020 Population and Housing Census (Population Census)," a national basic statistical survey and a basis for various major policy data, starting from the 15th.
The Population and Housing Census, conducted simultaneously nationwide under the supervision of the Statistics Korea, has been conducted every five years since 1925, and this year marks the 20th survey. Since 2015, the survey has been conducted on only about 20% of households instead of all households.
The survey targets all residents, both domestic and foreign, residing in Gwangju City as of 0:00 on November 1, and the dwellings where they live. Among the total 55 survey items, 45 items excluding 10 administrative data substitution items will be surveyed on-site.
The survey period is from the 15th to the 18th of next month. From the 15th to the 31st, internet and mobile surveys will be conducted first, and for households that do not participate, surveyors will visit directly from the 1st to the 18th of next month to conduct interviews using tablet PCs.
In particular, to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19, the survey method has been expanded from the existing PC to mobile as well. Sample households eligible to respond can conveniently participate in the survey anytime and anywhere using a smartphone by scanning the QR code on the pre-sent notice.
Additionally, for those who have difficulty using the internet, a call center function has been expanded to allow responses by phone.
To prevent COVID-19 in advance, statistical surveyors will conduct the survey with the safety of both surveyors and respondents as the top priority by wearing masks and using hand sanitizers.
During the visit survey period, non-face-to-face surveys are possible at any time if the respondent wishes.
Gwangju City plans to use this survey to comprehensively understand local population, households, and housing information and utilize it as basic data for the establishment of major policies by the national and local governments.
