Minister of the Interior and Safety and Fire Agency Chief Visit Site to Command Ulsan Apartment Fire
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Jin Young, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, visited the site of the fire at a mixed-use apartment complex in Nam-gu, Ulsan, on the morning of the 9th to assess the situation.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Minister Jin departed for the site early in the morning by KTX and arrived at the scene around 8:30 a.m.
Minister Jin had earlier received a report immediately after the fire broke out and instructed, "Mobilize all administrative resources including local governments such as Ulsan City, fire departments, and police to fully focus on fire suppression and rescue operations."
He also emphasized, "Please ensure the safety of firefighters during the rescue process" and "Thoroughly communicate the fire incident to the surrounding area promptly to prevent additional damage."
Jeong Mun-ho, Commissioner of the National Fire Agency, also moved to the site around 2 a.m. that day to directly command the fire scene.
In particular, at 6 a.m., when hidden embers on the apartment's exterior wall reignited, an order was issued to mobilize special equipment such as high-altitude ladder trucks from eight nearby cities and provinces.
According to the fire authorities, the fire broke out at 11:07 p.m. the previous day at the 'Samwhan Arnuvo' mixed-use apartment complex in Daldong, Nam-gu, Ulsan. The large flames were controlled in about two hours, but the fire spread inside the apartment, and firefighting efforts continued.

The fire authorities rescued 54 residents who had evacuated to refuge floors and the rooftop immediately after the fire broke out. Among those rescued and those who evacuated on their own, 88 people were transported to hospitals due to smoke inhalation or abrasions.
