Ministry of Foreign Affairs Discusses Strategy for Korean Health Industry's Entry into the Middle East... Accelerating Diplomatic Consultations
Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Korea Health Industry Development Institute, Seoul National University Hospital, and Others Participate
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 8th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting chaired by Ko Kyung-seok, Director General of the Africa and Middle East Bureau, with related organizations to discuss strategies and support measures for the advancement of Korea's health industry into the Middle East.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Seoul National University Hospital, and others.
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have expressed their desire to strengthen cooperation with Korea in the health sector, including COVID-19 response, through various occasions such as a summit-level phone call in March.
This meeting was held to discuss the necessary environment creation and entry strategies for these countries in the health sector and to lay the groundwork for strengthening health cooperation between Korea and Saudi Arabia, and Korea and the UAE.
The participants discussed strategies for entering the Saudi Arabian and UAE markets by leveraging Korea's elevated status in the health sector through K-quarantine, including joint advancement of hospital operation systems based on information and communication technology (ICT), pharmaceuticals, and medical devices, and addressed ways to resolve difficulties encountered during market entry.

Based on this meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to accelerate diplomatic consultations to strengthen health cooperation with major Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and will also hold meetings targeting health-related companies to support the advancement of Korea's health industry into the Middle East.
