Naju-si 'Cultural Heritage Night Festival' Held Ontact
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 8th that the ‘Naju Cultural Heritage Night Tour (夜行)’ festival, scheduled to be held from the 16th to the 18th around the Naju Eupseong Fortress area, will be conducted in an ‘Ontact’ format to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
‘Ontact’ is a concept that adds ‘On,’ meaning ‘connection with the outside through online,’ to Untact, which means non-face-to-face, and is actively used as a customized online communication method in the post-COVID-19 era.
The Naju Eupseong Fortress Urban Regeneration Council (Chairman Lee Myung-gyu), which organizes the festival, has reduced or canceled most audience participation programs to actively cooperate with government quarantine measures such as social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Instead, performance programs such as the commemorative ceremony, gayageum solo, and municipal art troupe concert will be broadcast live on the Naju Cultural Heritage Night Tour YouTube channel.
On the first day of the festival, the 16th, starting with an Untact concert at Geumseonggwan including the commemorative ceremony, samulnori performance, and natural dye fashion show, programs such as ‘Cultural Heritage Story Talk Concert with Professor Kim Chun-sik,’ ‘Walking Tour Introducing Major Cultural Heritage of Naju Eupseong Fortress,’ and ‘Multi-Light Show with Joseon Dynasty’s Pungnyu DJ’ will be aired online over three days.
Participatory programs such as making hanji (traditional Korean paper) artworks, antique auctions, traditional food cooking classes, walking in the Garden of the Moon, stamp rally along the stone wall road, and visiting the Wood Culture Museum exhibition hall will be operated with a minimum number of participants while complying with quarantine rules such as wearing masks and social distancing.
The festival program schedule can be found by searching ‘Naju Cultural Heritage Night Tour’ on the festival’s official website or the portal site Daum.
Various entry events will also be held on the site.
Chairman Lee Myung-gyu said, “We will do our best to prepare the Ontact festival to properly showcase the charm of Naju’s thousand-year-old history and cultural resources,” adding, “This will be a meaningful event to satisfy citizens’ cultural needs in place of cultural events canceled one after another due to COVID-19.”
