Suncheon-si Holds the 24th Senior Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony
36 Elderly Individuals Awarded for Contributions to Community Development and Welfare Improvement
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) held the 24th Senior Citizens' Day ceremony on the 8th at the Suncheon Senior Citizens' Hall auditorium, organized by the Suncheon Senior Citizens' Association, to celebrate October as the Month of the Elderly.
Suncheon City has held an annual Senior Citizens' Day ceremony and consolation events during the Month of the Elderly to express respect and gratitude to the seniors who have played a pivotal role in the local community, but this year the event was simplified due to COVID-19.
The ceremony was held with only a minimum number of seniors attending, including Mayor Heo Seok, City Council Chairman Heo Yu-in, and exemplary senior award recipients, while strictly adhering to quarantine rules such as wearing masks and social distancing.
At the awards ceremony, 25 people including senior Choi Jun-yong from Seungju-eup, who contributed to community development and the welfare improvement of seniors, received the mayor’s commendation; three people including Eom Gwi-rye from Jungang-dong received the governor’s commendation; and eight people including Jang Gyeong-cheol from Seungju-eup received the senior citizens' association president’s commendation.

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “I regret that the event was scaled down or canceled due to COVID-19, and I thank the seniors who have overcome numerous hardships over the years and led national development and economic growth,” adding, “I will work hard to make Suncheon a happy city where no senior is left out.”
