Cheaper Than Coffee... European Sparkling Wine 4,990 Won
La Roche 2 Types Sold at All Homeplus Stores
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The emergence of ‘ultra-low-priced wine’ has led to an increase in the number of people enjoying wine. Wine is breaking the perception of being an ‘expensive drink’ by being cheaper than a cup of coffee and is becoming a drink easily purchased at large supermarkets.
Homeplus announced on the 7th that it will sell the European sparkling wine ‘La Roche’ at 4,990 KRW per bottle at 140 Homeplus stores nationwide. Produced by GCF, which owns vineyards across Europe, it offers high quality at an affordable price. It is suitable as an aperitif that stimulates the appetite and pairs well with desserts.
The new products come in two varieties: the dry sparkling ‘La Roche Brut’ and the semi-sweet sparkling ‘La Roche Demi-Sec’. La Roche Brut features fresh fruit aromas and a balanced acidity that blend in the mouth, pairing especially well with meat dishes. La Roche Demi-Sec is a wine with rich acidity and moderate sweetness, which enhances the flavor when enjoyed with spicy food.
The popularity of ultra-low-priced wines continues. The Australian ‘Chairman Wine’ and American ‘Copper Ridge Wine’ introduced by Homeplus this year were both launched at 4,990 KRW per bottle, and about 450,000 bottles have been sold to date. Additionally, sales of wine DIY gift sets during this year’s Chuseok season increased by 26% compared to last year, showing that wine is also frequently purchased as a holiday gift.
Han Woosung, buyer of the alcoholic beverages team at Homeplus, said, “Due to the high demand for the Australian Chairman Wine and American Copper Ridge Wine offered at ultra-low prices, we decided to introduce European sparkling wine at an ultra-low price this time. Ultra-low-priced wines are accelerating the popularization of wine, and we will continue to offer wines that combine affordable prices with excellent quality.”
