View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) will operate the 2nd session of the Mapo Peace University online special lectures under the theme "Exploring the Path to Peaceful Coexistence and Accelerating Unification between North and South Korea" four times in total from the 15th to November 5th.
This 2nd session of the Mapo Peace University online course is held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War and the 2nd anniversary of the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit, with special lectures focusing on four keywords: international affairs, diplomacy, economy, and socio-culture.
The special lectures will be conducted every Thursday for a total of four sessions in a 1-on-1 interview format between the interviewer and the interviewee, focusing on topics such as a proper understanding of inter-Korean relations and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
For the lectures, Moon Jung-in, Presidential Special Advisor on Unification, Diplomacy, and National Security; Cheon Hae-sung, former Vice Minister of Unification; Kang Young-sik, the 7th President of the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Support Association; and Kim Nuri, professor at Chung-Ang University, will appear in sequence.
On the 15th, the first lecture on international affairs will be delivered by Moon Jung-in, who will speak on "The Situation of Inter-Korean Relations and Future Prospects." On the 22nd, the second lecture on diplomacy will feature Cheon Hae-sung discussing "Behind the Scenes of the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit." On the 29th, the third lecture on the economy will have Kang Young-sik, President of the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Support Association, conducting a dialogue on "The Importance of Economic Cooperation and Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation." On November 5th, the fourth lecture on socio-culture will be given by Kim Nuri of Chung-Ang University on "Misunderstandings and Truths about German Unification."
Applications for the special lectures can be made through the Hankyoreh Education website until the 14th, and there is no separate tuition fee.
All courses are composed as online special lectures in a non-face-to-face format to prevent COVID-19 and will be publicly available on the Mapo-gu YouTube channel for anyone to watch.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "This Mapo Peace University course will provide in-depth discussions on ways to improve the strained inter-Korean relations and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "It will be a great opportunity for residents to properly understand the importance of peace and the necessity of unification."
