View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A national petition has been posted demanding strong punishment for the perpetrators who falsely accused a woman’s older sister of child abuse, leading to her extreme choice. The petition, registered on the 4th, gained over 20,000 supporters within a day of being posted.
The petitioner stated, "My older sister, who was a daycare teacher, was falsely accused of child abuse and suffered from depression due to verbal abuse such as 'disgusting' and 'go get married and have kids like you,' eventually taking her own life," and added, "Please strongly punish parent A (37) and A’s father B (60) who falsely accused my sister who tragically took her own life."
According to the petitioner, his sister worked at a daycare center in Sejong City in 2018 and could not endure the assault and insults from parent A and others who claimed child abuse, ultimately making an extreme choice in June.
The petitioner claimed that CCTV footage showed no suspicious scenes of child abuse, and a child protection agency also concluded there was no abuse, but the excessive actions of the perpetrators pushed his sister to the brink.
The petitioner wrote, "A and others lied not only to the daycare parents but also to residents of the apartment complex where the daycare is located and nearby hospital staff, claiming my sister abused children," and added, "They continuously filed complaints with the city hall to cut off my sister’s livelihood and obstructed the normal childcare operations of the daycare." It was confirmed that the city hall repeatedly conducted on-site investigations in response to the complaints.
The petitioner expressed anger at the perpetrators’ shameless attitude, saying, "Although perpetrators A and B each received a fine of 20 million won, they appealed." In fact, A and B were indicted for violating laws related to obstruction of business, violent acts, and insult after verbally abusing and repeatedly hitting the petitioner’s sister, and were each sentenced to fines on the 17th of last month. However, A and others appealed the ruling.
Finally, the petitioner pleaded, "Even after hearing about my sister’s situation, the perpetrators have neither attended the funeral nor apologized," and asked, "Please help ensure strong punishment for the perpetrators and prevent such unjust incidents from happening again."
As of 6 p.m. on the 5th, the petition had gained over 22,000 supporters.
