US Media Reports "Trump Used Oxygen Respirator Before Hospitalization" (Comprehensive)
NYT "Difficulty Breathing and Oxygen Levels Dropped at White House the Day Before, Respirator Used"
President Trump Tweets Himself "I Am Feeling Good"... Denies Media Reports
[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly used an oxygen mask at the White House before being hospitalized, according to U.S. media reports.
This report contrasts sharply with the medical team's official statement that "his condition is very good," suggesting that the situation may not be as optimistic as previously thought.
The New York Times (NYT) cited two sources close to the White House on the 3rd (local time), reporting, "The president experienced breathing difficulties at the White House the previous day, and his blood oxygen levels dropped, prompting medical staff to provide him with an oxygen mask."
It further explained, "(The medical team) transferred President Trump to a military hospital to monitor him with better equipment and to provide faster treatment if any issues arise."
President Trump, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), was reportedly in such a poor condition that he needed to use an oxygen mask, leading to the decision to hospitalize him.
CNN and the Associated Press (AP) also cited sources reporting that President Trump used an oxygen mask the previous day.
Multiple U.S. media sources reported that "President Trump's vital signs over the past 24 hours have been very concerning, and the next 48 hours are extremely critical." If these reports are accurate, President Trump's condition appears worse than the official announcements suggest.
U.S. media outlets such as CNN and NYT quoted "sources familiar with the president's health" reporting this. The source also said, "He has not yet entered a clear path to full recovery."
AP, which had been reporting based on sources, soon began citing White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows making similar statements. It is highly likely that the source appearing in U.S. media is Chief Meadows.
Chief Meadows is a key close aide to President Trump. AP pointed out, "Meadows' statements contradict the rosy assessments from the medical team."
Later, in an interview with Reuters, Meadows said, "The president is in very good condition. He has improved and is asking for documents to review. The medical team is very satisfied with his vital signs."
That morning, President Trump's personal physician Sean Conley and the medical team held a press conference stating that President Trump's condition was very good, he had no fever for 24 hours, and had no breathing problems.
Meanwhile, in response to these media reports, President Trump himself tweeted that he was in good health.
President Trump wrote, "Doctors, nurses, everyone at the great Walter Reed Medical Center, and also the amazing people who joined from other agencies are incredible! With their help, I am feeling great!"
He also claimed, "There has been tremendous progress in the fight against this pandemic over the past six months."
