Jeonnam Province Reports Second COVID-19 Death After 33 Days of Hospitalization
70-Year-Old Woman with Underlying Conditions, Resident of Wando Tested Positive Last Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The number of deaths has increased to two as a woman in her 70s who was hospitalized for treatment after being diagnosed with COVID-19 in Jeonnam passed away, following the death on the 26th.
Jeonnam Province announced on the 30th that a woman in her 70s residing in the Wando area died around 3:40 PM on the same day while receiving inpatient treatment at Chosun University Hospital.
The woman tested positive on the 27th of last month after being tested following contact with a confirmed case in the Seoul area.
At the time of diagnosis, she had underlying conditions such as hypertension and arrhythmia and had been receiving treatment at a specialized hospital.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Jeonnam is 169, including 13 local infections and 36 imported cases. Among them, 14 are currently hospitalized for treatment.
Since the 11th, no community infections have occurred in the Jeonnam area, but confirmed cases due to imported infections are occurring intermittently.
Governor Kim Young-rok said, “It is very unfortunate that the second death has occurred in our region,” and “I extend my deepest condolences to the deceased and their bereaved family.”

In particular, Governor Kim urged, “Since the elderly are more likely to develop severe symptoms if infected, please refrain from visiting your hometown or relatives, or gatherings with acquaintances and family,” and “Please minimize contact with outsiders as much as possible.”
