Secretary of State Pompeo to Visit Korea Next Week: "Looking Forward to Visiting Korea"
Visits to Japan and Mongolia as well
Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, is holding a press conference at the State Department building in Washington, D.C., on the 2nd (local time). Secretary Pompeo expressed in an interview with Fox Business Network the previous day that he hopes all Confucius Institutes on U.S. university campuses will be closed by the end of this year. The State Department announced in a press release on the 29th (local time) that Secretary Pompeo will visit Japan, Mongolia, and South Korea from the 4th to the 8th of next month.
On the 6th, Secretary Pompeo will visit Japan to attend the second Quad foreign ministers' meeting with Australia, India, and Japan, and will also hold talks with his Japanese counterpart to discuss mutual interests.
He will then visit Mongolia on the 7th and visit South Korea on the 7th and 8th to hold talks with senior officials before returning home, the State Department said.
Secretary Pompeo accompanied President Donald Trump when he met North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un at Panmunjom in June last year, and visited South Korea after his fourth visit to North Korea in October 2018.

On the same day, Secretary Pompeo mentioned on his Twitter, "I am very much looking forward to going to Tokyo, Ulaanbaatar, and Seoul," adding, "I anticipate the Quad foreign ministers' meeting will be a productive one."
