Gwangju Seo-gu to Establish 'Dementia Safety Park'... Expected to Promote Understanding and Awareness of Dementia
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 29th that it has created a Dementia Safety Park in Sangmu 2-dong, a dementia-safe village, and recently held a completion ceremony.
The dementia-safe village project aims to create a dementia-friendly village where elderly people with dementia and their families can live comfortably by spreading correct understanding and awareness of dementia within the local community.
Sangmu 2-dong in Seo-gu was designated last September as Seo-gu’s first “Memory Love Dementia-Safe Village Filled with Hope.”
This Dementia Safety Park was established within Ssanghak Park, the most frequently used park by residents.
The Dementia Safety Park consists of dementia-friendly facilities including ▲ three dementia-related information boards ▲ three dementia prevention game boards ▲ one logo light ▲ six dementia prevention and exercise instruction boards inside the pavilion ▲ one large trick art ▲ 24 bench murals and colorings ▲ and one entrance graphic.
Residents are expected to naturally encounter information and messages related to dementia, take an interest in dementia prevention, and at the same time, this will serve as an opportunity to improve awareness of dementia.
Based on this completion ceremony, Seo-gu plans to produce a promotional video and post it on YouTube and Seo-gu Office’s BAND to promote the Dementia Safety Park to residents.
Seo Daeseok, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “I believe dementia is something very close to us,” and added, “We will work harder to make Seo-gu the safest district, a village safe from dementia.”
