Establishing a Foundation for Sustainable Offshore Wind Power Development through Public-Led Offshore Wind Projects
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been finally selected in the "2020 Offshore Wind Suitable Site Discovery Project Contest" hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
According to Yeonggwang-gun on the 28th, the offshore wind suitable site discovery project is a project with a total budget of 3.5 billion KRW (national funds), jointly conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Environment to establish a sustainable offshore wind power complex by measuring wind resources at suitable offshore wind sites, investigating the marine environment, and securing resident acceptance.
The county plans to realize a Green New Deal that contributes to revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs by developing a large-scale public-led offshore wind power complex where the public leads and residents directly participate in the project at the selected optimal site.
Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kim Junsung) said, "We will do our best to make this offshore wind power development project a project that coexists with residents and revitalizes the local economy through the development of a large-scale offshore wind power complex led by the public."
