Wando Jayeon Geudaero Mi New Rice, Second Export Shipment to Russia
Introduction of Lighting No.1, Practicing Natural Farming, Producing 400t
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 28th that it held a ceremony on the 24th at the Wando Nonghyup Union PRC to commemorate the second export of Wando Natural Rice (米) to Russia.
On this day, officials from rural development institutions such as Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services Director of Technical Support Division Jeong Chan-su, Head of Technology Distribution Division Kim Nam-gyun, Instructor Kim Seon-pyo, and Director of Wando-gun Agricultural Technology Center Lee Bok-seon, as well as Nonghyup officials including Yang Jae-young, Head of Nonghyup County Branch, Kim Mi-nam, Chairman of Wando Nonghyup, and Choi Seok-man, Head of RPC, attended.
The 10 tons of freshly harvested Wando rice, Natural Rice, exported to Russia, were shipped from Busan Port on the 26th through NH Nonghyup Trade and will be sold in Russia at locations such as the Uzbek Rice Market in Sakhalin Oblast and supermarkets in Vladivostok.
The county has been seeking export opportunities since 2017 to overcome the limitations of domestic sales due to the gradual decrease in rice consumption, resulting in rice stock issues and falling rice prices, which have made market channels difficult across the rice industry and to enhance the competitiveness of the rice industry through diverse market development.
As a result, starting with exporting 12 tons to Malaysia in 2018, 3 tons to the United States in 2019, 18 tons to Russia in June of this year, it has now exported an additional 10 tons.
The freshly harvested rice being exported this time is the Jomyeong No. 1 variety, developed by the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services to strengthen the competitiveness of Jeonnam’s freshly harvested rice. It is the variety with the best taste and is highly rated by consumers as good rice.
The county introduced the new freshly harvested rice variety Jomyeong No. 1 and practiced the ‘Natural Farming Method’ that preserves the natural environment such as dust-free air, clear water, uncontaminated soil, and mineral-rich sea breeze, promoting a premium freshly harvested rice complex (60 hectares) cultivation project, producing about 400 tons of rice.
Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor, said, “The Wando Union Nonghyup PRC’s acquisition of GAP facility certification and the second export of Wando rice to Russia are objective indicators demonstrating the excellence of ‘Wando Natural Rice.’ We will continue to promote various agricultural policies to improve farmers’ income.”
Meanwhile, to ensure safe agricultural product production and sales, the county has been promoting GAP facility certification for the Wando Nonghyup Union RPC since early this year and received GAP facility certification on the 18th. It is also focusing on upgrading rice quality and safe agricultural product production by constructing a new rice drying and storage facility (DSC) and improving infrastructure.
