The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 25th that, following Vietnam and the Philippines, it will start local pre-arrival education in Thailand to support early settlement in Korea.
International marriages involving Koreans have been rapidly increasing in Thailand recently. The number rose from 1,017 cases in 2017 to 2,050 cases last year, ranking third in the number of marriages after Vietnam and China.
The local pre-arrival education in Thailand is operated as an information-providing program targeting applicants for marriage immigrant visas, covering Korean culture, welfare systems, and measures to cope with violence against women. The program includes discussion sessions based on actual international marriage cases and specialized programs to help actively manage conflicts within the family. Inquiries about education applications can be made through the UN Human Rights Policy Center Thailand office.
