"During Chuseok Holiday, Garbage Collection Days Vary by Neighborhood"
Joint Public-Private Chuseok Cleaning Campaign Until September 29 ... Nationwide Collection on the 4th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will conduct a city-wide cleaning campaign in downtown areas before the Chuseok holiday to ensure citizens can enjoy the festive season in a pleasant environment. During the holiday period, garbage collection days vary by district, so citizens need to check the designated disposal dates.
On the 25th, Seoul announced that it will carry out a large-scale cleaning of major downtown areas and alleyways in each district by the 29th, just before the Chuseok holiday. Garbage stored inside homes before the holiday will be collected in full and transported to waste treatment facilities such as the Sudokwon Landfill Site and resource recovery centers for proper disposal.
Since garbage collection days differ by district during the holiday, citizens must dispose of their waste after sunset according to their residential district’s schedule.
On the first day of the holiday, September 30, only Dongdaemun-gu and parts of Guro-gu are allowed to dispose of garbage. On October 1, the day of Chuseok, only Gangdong-gu can dispose of waste. On October 2, 12 districts including Gwangjin-gu and Seodaemun-gu can dispose of garbage, while on October 3, four districts including Gangnam-gu and Jung-gu are permitted. On the last day of the holiday, October 4, all districts in Seoul can dispose of garbage. For detailed information, citizens can check their district’s official website or contact the cleaning administration department.
The city will also establish and operate a total of 26 "Cleaning Situation Rooms" across Seoul and its districts during the Chuseok holiday, and deploy 252 personnel in "Cleaning Patrol Teams" to promptly address citizen complaints and inconveniences related to cleaning.
To maintain clean streets during the holiday, a total of 14,313 district sanitation workers will be on special duty, and 66 members of the "Seoul 365 Clean Patrol" will form work shifts to focus their activities on busy streets and downtown areas with high foot traffic.
Starting October 5, after the holiday, all cleaning personnel and equipment from each district will be mobilized to collect and process accumulated garbage from the holiday period. Depending on district circumstances, residents will also participate in final Chuseok cleaning activities.
