Jeonnam Police Forecast Maximum Traffic Congestion on Chuseok Holiday 'Outbound on 30th, Return on Next Month 1st'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 24th that it will implement special traffic management measures to reduce traffic congestion on highways and national roads during the Chuseok holiday period.
This year, due to the spread of COVID-19, traffic volume is expected to decrease, with the heaviest congestion anticipated on the morning of the 30th for outbound traffic and the afternoon of Chuseok day, October 1st, for return traffic.
Accordingly, as the first phase, from the 25th to the 28th, the four days before the Chuseok holiday, the police will focus on managing crowded places for holiday preparations such as traditional markets and large supermarkets.
In the second phase, from the 29th to the 4th of next month, including the Chuseok holiday, 343 personnel including daily traffic and local police, riot squads, and exemplary drivers, along with 118 pieces of equipment such as patrol cars and large motorcycles, will be deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety on outbound and return routes.
On highways, high-risk behaviors such as speeding, reckless driving, and selfish driving will be intensively cracked down on using undercover patrol cars (1 unit) and others.
During vulnerable times for drowsy driving, alarm patrols (siren operation) and real-time patrols of vulnerable sections will be conducted to reduce traffic accidents.
Additionally, to revitalize the local economy, which has been depressed due to the impact of COVID-19, parking will be allowed on roads around 61 traditional markets during the Chuseok holiday period to minimize inconvenience for residents.

A Jeonnam police official said, “Drivers on outbound and return routes are requested to check traffic information in advance through radio traffic broadcasts, mobile apps, and electronic signboards, avoid congested times and roads, wear seat belts, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and cooperate to make this holiday safe by refraining from cutting in and driving on the shoulder, thereby protecting their own and their families’ safety.”
