Hyundai Kia Motors receives advice from these advisory board members on key issues to strengthen the group's future industrial competitiveness based on AI, including ▲ planning new businesses and establishing technology strategies ▲ building a global research organization ▲ setting investment directions to secure research infrastructure. A Hyundai Motor official stated, "We are pursuing investments and collaborations in various areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, car sharing, mobility, and electrification," adding, "Recruiting world-renowned scholars as AI technology advisors is aimed at responding to the competition in future car development and strengthening expertise in AI technology development for sustainable growth."
Professor Tomaso Poggio, who was recruited in the second half of last year, is regarded as one of the world's top scholars in neural network research and AI applications. He currently serves as a professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT's School of Engineering and concurrently as the director of the MIT Center for Brains, Minds, and Machines. He has conducted research theorizing and analyzing human visual information. In 2014, he received the Swartz Prize for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience from the Society for Neuroscience. His prot?g?s include Christoph Koch, CEO and Chief Scientist of the Allen Institute; Amnon Shashua, CTO and founder of Mobileye; and Demis Hassabis, CEO and founder of DeepMind.
Hyundai Kia Motors appointed Professor Daniela Rus as an AI technology advisory member in the first half of this year.
Professor Daniela Rus, additionally recruited as an advisory board member earlier this year, is an authority in robotics and artificial intelligence, conducting research on various forms of robots and autonomous driving aimed at improving human life. She currently serves as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT's School of Engineering and concurrently as the director of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). In April of this year, she was appointed as a member of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in the United States.
Hyundai Kia Motors is receiving advice from them on various new business strategies related to vehicle quality improvement using artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart mobility solutions. Hyundai Kia Motors explains that introducing AI technology in some processes, such as vehicle quality inspection, can maximize process efficiency. They are also consulting on utilizing various technologies, including methods to improve the learning efficiency of AI models with small amounts of data, ways to provide developers with the basis for inspection results judged by AI, and methods to reflect newly generated data in real time.
In the field of robotics, discussions are underway regarding the outlook and impact of the robot market and potential collaboration partners. Together with the advisory board members, Hyundai Motor Group plans to concretize the direction of robotics business promotion that can leverage the technologies possessed within the group and create synergy.
