Dobong-gu Delivers 'Senior Festival Package' for October, the Month of Respect for the Elderly
Delivery of Care Packages to Over 2,700 Elderly Living Alone... Awards Presented to 60 Individuals for Filial Piety and Contributions to Elderly Welfare
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dong-jin Lee) will hold an event throughout October, the Month of the Elderly, to create and deliver ‘Gyeongro Janchi packages’ in each neighborhood and award commendations to 60 individuals including filial piety awardees, exemplary seniors, and contributors to senior welfare.
The Gyeongro Janchi Promotion Committee of Dobong-gu’s 14 neighborhoods plans to create packages tailored to each neighborhood’s characteristics and deliver them to about 2,700 elderly people aged 65 or older living alone and in welfare blind spots. This year, it is difficult to hold large-scale Gyeongro Janchi events due to COVID-19.
The Gyeongro Janchi packages consist of easy-to-prepare meals such as Yukgaejang and daily necessities including toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and conditioner to assist seniors who have difficulty preparing meals due to COVID-19.
The packages will be delivered to vulnerable elderly households such as those living alone to check on their well-being and minimize care gaps.

Mayor Dong-jin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “This year, the prolonged rainy season and the relentless spread of COVID-19 have raised concerns about the health of our seniors, and I feel sorry that we cannot visit them in person through the Gyeongro Janchi.” He added, “I hope COVID-19 will end soon so that we can take off our masks and freely laugh and talk with our neighbors in our precious daily lives.”
