Jeju-do Achieves Three Consecutive Years as Top Performer in FTA Fund Project Evaluation
Incentives Including 30% Increase in Budget for Modernizing High-Quality Gamgyul Production Facilities Next Year
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 23rd that it has been selected as the top grade ‘Grade 1’ for three consecutive years in the 2020 Fruit Production and Distribution Support Project (FTA Fund Project) annual evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, following 2018 and 2019.
The FTA Fund Project annual evaluation is conducted to assess the appropriateness of the objectives of the FTA countermeasure projects and to maximize the support effect of the FTA Fund projects by providing incentives and penalties based on the evaluation results.
The evaluation targets the FTA Fund projects carried out in 2019 by 18 project implementing entities nationwide, focusing on △ the role and performance of the project implementing entities △ budget execution performance △ integrated marketing performance △ measures to enhance farm household income, among others.
Jeju Province received high marks in this evaluation for increasing handling performance by 4.3% (71.4 billion KRW → 82.8 billion KRW) through integrated marketing and increasing organized handling amount by 11.4% (91.0 billion KRW → 101.4 billion KRW), reflecting strengthened cooperative projects at the provincial level to increase farm household income.
As a result of receiving the highest grade in this evaluation, the budget for the modernization project of high-quality citrus production facilities to be supported next year will be increased by 30% compared to this year.
Along with this, the Jeju Regional Headquarters of NongHyup Economic Holdings Co., Ltd. (Jeju Citrus Support Group) will receive 30 million KRW as an incentive project fund for promoting the FTA Fund Project.

Jeon Byung-hwa, Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Bureau of Jeju Province, stated, “We will strengthen negotiations for national funding to expand production bases and distribution facilities such as the original orchard maintenance project (variety renewal, transplanting of mature trees) to foster a sustainable citrus industry and strive to bring forward the era of 1 trillion KRW in Jeju citrus revenue.”
