Sung Il-jong: "Park Deok-heum Should Not Have Gone to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport... Will Enforce Strict Moral Standards"
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Seong Il-jong, a member of the People Power Party, took a strong stance regarding the same party member Park Deok-heum's 'suspected illicit contract awards through affiliated organizations,' stating that "political responsibility must be clearly taken."
On the 23rd, Seong said on KBS Radio's "Kim Kyung-rae's Strongest Current Affairs," "Park should have made a political judgment regarding the conflict of interest controversy," adding, "Since he runs a construction company, it would have been appropriate for him to avoid committees such as the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee (Land Committee), which are related to conflicts of interest."
He continued, "When I asked Park, he said that he still received contracts even when he was on the Education Committee or the Defense Committee, and he complained that everything was related to conflicts of interest," but pointed out, "Still, it is problematic that he was seated in the main committee, the Land Committee."
Seong also expressed his position on the internal party debate over Park's political responsibility. He said, "I believe Park himself will make many judgments on this matter," and added, "The People Power Party also has moral standards demanded by the Democratic Party, so I think we should strictly adhere to those standards."
