[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Suncheon Cultural Foundation (Chairman Heo Seok) will hold the ‘2020 National Living Culture Festival’ as an Ontact festival for three days from the 16th to the 18th of next month, and will hold a planned exhibition at Suncheonman Bay National Garden from the 8th to the 18th of next month.
The ‘2020 National Living Culture Festival,’ a nationwide living culture event, is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and jointly organized by the Regional Culture Promotion Agency and the Suncheon Cultural Foundation.
The festival first started in Seoul in 2014, and since last year it has been held on a regional tour basis, with this year’s event taking place in Suncheon.
Under the slogan “Created by the region, gathered to share, enjoyed by all,” this festival is designed as a place where citizens exhausted by COVID-19 can heal themselves through living culture and deliver hope through regional exchange.
Notably, ‘Jibsaengchuk (2020 National Living Culture Festival Enjoyed at Home)’ allows people to enjoy performances, experiences, and videos via YouTube streaming broadcasts, and the ‘Living Culture Master Class’ using the ZOOM video system offers online broadcasts of master classes in fields such as home training, dance, singing, and musical instruments.
Additionally, through the living culture experience kit ‘Soildam Kkureomi’ enjoyed at home, participants can experience an Ontact class on decorating a Suncheon mini garden via YouTube. In this way, various experiences have been prepared so that the general public can enjoy culture in daily life and heal their weary minds.
New programs have also been prepared so that living culture enthusiasts nationwide can enjoy together.
The ‘What Are You Doing If You Play Relay’ eco bag relay, percat ball challenge, and literature relay, directly planned by young planners in Suncheon, are pre-promotion relay programs that start in Suncheon and travel nationwide to complete a single work.
The completed works can be seen at the Suncheonman Bay National Garden exhibition hall during the festival period, and all exhibitions can be enjoyed online.
In addition, the ‘1st National Living Culture Band Competition’ will be held for the first time, and a special exhibition using mud boats that can represent Suncheon’s colors will be presented as a planned exhibition incorporating ecological culture.
Despite COVID-19, this festival has safely prepared all exhibitions and events online, focusing on live broadcasts on ‘2020 National Living Culture Festival Facebook’ and ‘Suncheon Cultural Foundation YouTube’ so that more living culture participants nationwide can enjoy together.
The Suncheon Cultural Foundation plans to connect living culture festivals held nationwide via online networks during the festival period and proceed together.
At the main stage of the festival, Suncheonman Bay National Garden, 300 multi-screens using a video conferencing system will be used to connect the opening and closing ceremonies as well as various performance programs nationwide.

A representative of the Suncheon Cultural Foundation said, “Although it is a difficult situation due to COVID-19, life and daily life with culture provide comfort and courage, especially at times like these.” He added, “Since this is the first attempt to hold the National Living Culture Festival Ontact, there will be difficulties, but we will do our best to unite living culture enthusiasts nationwide and take this opportunity to widely promote living culture in daily life to the entire nation for the recovery of community, which is the value of living culture.”
