Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, Delivers Quarantine Supplies to Merchants During Visit to Traditional Market
Encouragement Visits to Junggokjeil Market, Hwayang Market, and Yeongdonggyo Market Until the 24th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin District, visited traditional markets on the 21st to encourage merchants and deliver quarantine supplies in celebration of the Chuseok holiday.
On this day, Mayor Kim personally inspected the market situation, which has been stagnant due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, handed out quarantine supplies to merchants one by one, and listened to the difficulties faced by the merchants.
Mayor Kim said, "I expect that the merchants are carrying a heavy burden on their hearts as the Chuseok special demand is also absent amid the hardships caused by COVID-19," and added, "We are making every effort together with residents to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, so I hope you can hang in there a little longer."
He also emphasized, "I hope that market merchants will always wear masks even if communication is inconvenient so that residents can shop with peace of mind."
The district supported the modernization of traditional market management this year by providing ▲shopping and delivery services ▲holiday event support for Seollal and Chuseok ▲Our Neighborhood Market Outings at Junggok Jeil Market, Jayang Market, and Yeongdonggyo Market. Additionally, online delivery services are supported for four markets (Junggok Jeil, Jayang, Yeongdonggyo, and Hwayang Jeil).
Furthermore, to revitalize the stagnant traditional markets, the district secured 13.2 billion KRW in national and city funds through the ‘2021 Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Support Project’ parking environment improvement contest promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. The district plans to build a public parking lot with 138 spaces across basement levels 1 to 3 in the central area of Jayang 4-dong traditional market by 2023.
In addition, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the district distributed 16,338 masks in six rounds and delivered 4,525 hand sanitizers in four rounds to traditional markets.
The local community also extended helping hands to overcome COVID-19. The quarantine supplies provided to traditional markets this time were donated last month by Hyundai Motor Company Central Region Headquarters for COVID-19 prevention, including 8,000 masks, 700 hand sanitizers, and 1,500 wet wipes, worth approximately 11 million KRW.
Starting with Jayang Market on the 21st, Mayor Kim plans to visit traditional markets in the area such as Junggok Jeil Market, Hwayang Market, and Yeongdonggyo Market until the 24th to encourage merchants.
Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, "Despite the difficult situation caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to express my consolation and gratitude to the merchants who are steadfastly supporting traditional markets, a pillar of the local economy."
