Trump, "Won't Approve Sale if China Gains Control of TikTok"
Chinese Media Claim "China Will Also Not Approve the Sale"
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Donald Trump, President of the United States, stated that if ByteDance, the parent company of the Chinese video-sharing app TikTok, maintains control over the newly established 'TikTok Global' after the sale negotiations with Oracle, he will withdraw approval of the sale agreement.
On the 21st (local time), President Trump said in an interview with Fox News, "It will be completely controlled by Oracle. American companies, including Oracle, will purchase a large portion and make the shares public."
President Trump emphasized, "If they do not have full control, we will not approve the agreement."
On the 19th, President Trump had effectively expressed approval of the sale negotiations between ByteDance and the American companies Oracle and Walmart, calling it a "fantastic deal."
Uncertainty over the approval of this deal is also growing in China. Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of the Chinese state-run Global Times, stated on Twitter that Chinese authorities will not approve the TikTok deal between ByteDance and Oracle.
