Hong Jun-pyo Proposes TK New Airport Act... "Balanced National Development with Hub Airport"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo proposed the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Act on the 21st, stating that a hub airport is necessary for balanced regional development.
On the same day, he wrote on Facebook, "It has been over 30 years since I called for balanced regional development, and although government-affiliated institutions have been relocated to provinces and innovation cities have been built, the provinces are becoming increasingly impoverished," adding, "The key to balanced national development is the decentralization of economic power, but the increasingly severe concentration of economic power in the Seoul metropolitan area has now reached a point where it is difficult to control institutionally."

Former leader Hong said, "One of the ideas I advocate is the hub airport theory (據點空港論)," explaining, "The integrated Daegu-Gyeongbuk new airport would handle passenger and cargo traffic for parts of Chungcheong and the TK region, while the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam area would open passenger and cargo routes through the Busan Gadeok New Airport, and Honam would open air routes to the world through Muan Airport."
