Last year, Dongmyung University, which ranked first in employment rate among medium-to-large universities in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region, is pushing the employment front line further forward despite the challenges of COVID-19.
Despite the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, eight senior students from the Department of International Logistics at Dongmyung University secured early simultaneous employment at Marine Corporation Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Kyung-ho).
The eight enrolled students are senior graduates from the Department of International Logistics: Moon Won-jun, Jung Ki-wook, Choi Jin-hyuk, Hong Jun-hyung, Lim Hyun-jun, Park Young-chan, Hwang Chan-won, and Kwak Ji-woong.
They were finally accepted for the weighing and inspection job roles at Marine Corporation Co., Ltd. and have been hired as full-time employees since the end of August.
More than 20 Dongmyung University alumni are already working as employees at this company.
Marine Corporation Co., Ltd., located in Jungang-dong, Busan, was established on September 1, 1965, and is a port inspection company with about 200 employees, recording annual sales of over 15 billion KRW.
Jung Ki-wook, a senior who will soon start working, said, “The help from the university’s Career Center consultants was impressive. I was able to prepare systematically for documents and interviews. I want to become an expert by acquiring certifications related to inspection work in the future.”
Woo Ho-seop, director of Marine Corporation Co., Ltd., gave a positive evaluation, saying, “Dongmyung University students have excellent specialized knowledge and understanding of ports and ships, and their loyalty to the company is high, resulting in a low turnover rate.”
The company has been accepting graduates from Dongmyung University’s Department of International Logistics based on recommendations from Professor Ahn Tae-young for the past seven years. For the past five years, it has delegated priority hiring rights for all new employees to Dongmyung University, effectively securing stable employment opportunities.
Earlier, Dongmyung University recorded the highest employment rate (71.8%) among medium-to-large general universities (with over 1,000 graduates) in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region as of December 31, 2018.
Recently, Dongmyung University, which has shifted its specialization toward being an ‘AI-strong university,’ established the ‘AI Convergence College,’ an AI bachelor’s program, starting in the 2021 academic year?the first among universities in the Busan area?and plans to expand AI convergence majors to all colleges from the 2022 academic year.
In May, it was the only private university in Busan selected for the 4th Industrial Revolution Innovation Leading University Project, securing a total of 2 billion KRW in funding from the Ministry of Education for 2020 to 2021.
