Return to School on the 12th of Next Month After Chuseok Holiday to Be Reconsidered
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as special schools in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, will resume in-person classes after about a month.
According to the Ministry of Education on the 21st, after ending in-person classes on the 25th of last month and switching entirely to remote learning, schools in the metropolitan area will simultaneously reopen after 27 days.
There are 2,013 kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools in Seoul, 790 in Incheon, and 4,163 in Gyeonggi Province.
Each school will operate a hybrid model of in-person and remote classes. High school seniors (Grade 12) can also attend in-person classes alongside remote learning, as the school records for university admissions early applications were finalized on the 16th.
The number of students attending in-person classes will be limited to one-third of the total students under social distancing level 2, and up to two-thirds for high schools. The same strengthened measures to minimize crowding will apply to non-metropolitan areas. However, non-metropolitan regions may partially ease density restrictions after consultation with the Ministry of Education.

This in-person attendance schedule will last until the end of the special quarantine period for the Chuseok holiday on the 11th of next month. Whether to extend the in-person attendance period will be decided later through discussions with education offices and health authorities.
