Democratic Party Demands Park Deokheum's Resignation: "Builder or Member of Parliament?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The Democratic Party of Korea urged Park Deokheum, a member of the People Power Party, to resign on the 18th. Park was accused of receiving large-scale construction contracts from supervised institutions through a construction company registered under his family's name while serving as a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee.
Park Deok-heum, a member of the United Future Party, attended an emergency party meeting held at the National Assembly on the 29th, keeping his mouth firmly shut. Park owns three apartments, one detached house, two commercial buildings, two warehouses, one dock, and 36 parcels of land, with real estate assets totaling 28.89 billion won, enjoying the highest real estate capital gains among the 21st National Assembly members. Choi added, "The committee secretary is a position that wields powerful influence by representing the negotiating groups to discuss and finalize the agenda and bill processing schedules. At such a time, the fact that there are 12 construction projects contracted from supervised institutions, amounting to 43.3 billion won, is absolutely unacceptable."
He directed his remarks at Park, saying, "Are you performing your duties as a member of the National Assembly to satisfy personal greed? Aren't you ashamed in front of the people? This must be clearly revealed through an investigation into conflicts of interest among public officials. It must be examined whether the supervised institutions awarded these contracts as bribes."

He continued, "Park must bear all legal consequences, including referral to the National Assembly Ethics Committee and other accusations. Furthermore, the People Power Party, which has neglected and condoned this, must also take responsibility," he added.
