UNIST Completely Changes Interview Format... Face-to-Face? Online? "NO"
Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology Breaks Conventional Interview Format by Requiring Individual Video Project Submissions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The basic method of face-to-face interviews in the admission process has been broken.
Although online interviews are also non-face-to-face, the method of coming to a designated place and exchanging real-time responses through a monitor is the same as a face-to-face interview.
Also, if a candidate shows COVID-19 symptoms on the day of the interview, they cannot even enter the interview venue, losing an equal opportunity like in face-to-face interviews.
Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST, President Lee Yong-hoon) has completely changed the interview method for the 2021 academic year early admission process. Naturally, it is non-face-to-face in the 'With Corona' era.
However, instead of an online interview, the interview is conducted by having each applicant record a video of the assigned task and submit it.
The university said it changed the interview method to consider the health and safety of all applicants and parents and to guarantee equal opportunities amid the ongoing spread of COVID-19.
To reduce inconvenience caused by COVID-19 prevention measures, the application submission period was adjusted to September 23 to 28.
The submission period was extended to a total of 6 days, longer than the previous 4 days. However, all documents must be submitted online, by registered mail, or official documents, and in-person submissions were eliminated to prevent infectious diseases.
President Lee Yong-hoon said, "We want to provide equal opportunities to all students who have diligently worked to achieve their dreams as science and technology researchers despite the difficult educational environment caused by COVID-19," adding, "This decision also considers applicants who are suddenly undergoing treatment or quarantine due to COVID-19 to allow them to challenge UNIST admission."
Director of Admissions Kwon Tae-hyuk said, "Due to the spread of infectious diseases, face-to-face interviews are impossible, and difficult situations are occurring for applicants due to COVID-19," adding, "We plan to focus more on discovering students who have spared no effort."
